In
Greta Gerwig's 2019 big screen adaptation of
Louisa May Alcott's beloved 1868 novel,
Little Women, Saoirse Ronan plays
'Jo March' in the coming-of-age period drama. Set in
New England in the 1860s in the aftermath of
America's Civil War, the film follows
Jo and her three sisters, the eldest
'Meg' (Emma Watson), the second youngest
'Beth' (Eliza Scanlen) and youngest sibling
'Amy' (Florence Pugh) as they grow up, their loves, their illnesses, their career and life aspirations.
Laura Dern plays their mother
'Marmee March', looking after her family, their home and poorer neighbours whilst her husband and their father has been away fighting in the
Union Army. The
Best Picture nominee is nominated for six
Academy Awards, including for
Jacqueline Durran for
Best Costume Design.

March sisters and their mother in the movie were photographed on display at
Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum & Galleries on February 4, 2020, as part of the
28th Art of Motion Picture Costume Design exhibition.
