First Man movie costumes on display...

In First Man based on the 2005 non-fiction book by James R. Hansen, Ryan Gosling plays American NASA astronaut Neil Armstrong. In the biopic we follow his early flight training in rockets to the Earth's upper atmosphere, the sacrifices he, his wife 'Janet' and family make at home, and eventually his travels into space to the Moon for the first time on the Apollo 11 mission with Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969.

These First Man costumes were designed by Mary Zophres and were photographed on display at Downtown L.A.'s FIDM Museum on February 5, 2019.

The Apollo A7L NASA spacesuit was manufactured by Global Effects, Inc., whilst the silver X-15 flight suit was made by Ryan Nagata.

In director Damien Chazelle's Neil Armstrong biopic, First Man, Ryan Gosling plays the iconic American NASA astronaut as we follow his training and family life as he ventures to the moon for man's first time on the Apollo 11 mission with Buzz Aldrin on July 20, 1969. The film is based on James R. Hansen's 2005 book, First Man: The Life of Neil A. Armstrong.

This out-of-this-world costume and prop exhibit for First Man arrived just in time for Oscar season and is a wonderful showcase for Costume Designer Mary Zophres and Production Designer Nathan Crowley.

After the death of his young daughter, Karen, Neil Armstrong applied for NASA's Project Gemini and is a part of the Gemini 8 mission. This Gemini spacesuit was recreated by Mary Zophres and manufactured by Global Effects, Inc.

In the film, this Apollo A7L spacesuit manufactured by Global Effects, Inc. was worn for the Apollo 11 mission to the moon and the eventual lunar landing, one giant leap for mankind.

Ryan Gosling wears this NASA quarantine suit after he returns to Earth after his successful mission and is picked up by the U.S.S. Hornet, the ship that recovered the Apollo 11 astronauts after splashdown.

Screen-used First Man movie props

In addition to all these cool costumes, the exhibit also feature lots of screen-used props from the film, like NASA manuals, IDs and equipment. Nathan Crowley was responsible for Production Design and this retro console was made by Spaceworks for the movie.
